This discussion, moderated by Kim Gately, IMA Financial Group, includes Bonnie Ellwood, Enerplus, Kyle Frazer, Xcel Energy, and Anita Munkres, The AES Corporation.

    Director of Nuclear Strategy and CI at Xcel Energy

    Kyle started his career in the United States Navy operating the nuclear reactor on the submarine USS La Jolla (SSN 701) from 2002 to 2006. After separating from the Navy Kyle returned home to Colorado to continue his education and started a small handyman business to pay his way through school. On top of electrical and nuclear engineering from the Navy, Kyle studied Science and Technology Studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver, before entering the GEM program at UC Denver in 2010. Kyle used his small business experience to help other small business owners with business consulting while completing the GEM program in 2012. Kyle turned his eyes toward bigger things and started with an operational Management consulting firm in 2013, working in North America, and then opening the European office in 2014. Kyle continued with the management consulting role, working offshore in the North Sea, at chemical plants in the UK, Austria, and France, and supporting analyses in the Middle East and Asia, as well as Scandinavia.
    In 2016 Kyle returned to the US and continued management consulting as an independent contractor, working in manufacturing and Consumer Package goods, chemical plants, and finally supporting Private Equity and Venture Capital clients. In 2019 Kyle decided to get off the road to find a local job and joined Xcel Energy. He started on the internal consulting team supporting nuclear, gas, and special projects. Kyle slowly moved more toward the nuclear team until officially taking the role of Director of Nuclear Strategy in 2022. Kyle currently leads the advanced reactor team and works on Xcel Energy’s advanced nuclear goals and strategy for the corporate goal of achieving 100% carbon free by 2050.

    Senior Environmental Engineer at Enerplus

    Bonnie Ellwood is a Senior Environmental Engineer at Enerplus Corporation in Denver, where she works on emission reduction projects. She graduated from the University of Texas, with a bachelor’s degree in Geosystems Engineering and Hydrogeology in 2004. She has spent her career at Encana and Enerplus working a myriad of Operations Engineering roles, including, Production, Completions and Facilities. She worked Operations in the Jonah field, the DJ Basin, the Powder River Basin, and her personal favorite, the Bakken. Bonnie grew up on the Houston ship channel in Baytown, TX and is a first-generation college graduate. Her passion for the environment and fence line communities has led her to work in Air Quality at both companies. She is now working her dream job of finding economic ways to reduce emissions throughout oil and gas operations. She is proud of her environmental accomplishments throughout her career including the Jonah Infill Drilling Project Environmental Impact Statement in 2006, an award-winning paper on Green Completions for EPA’s Natural Gas Star program in 2009, and most recently utilizing North Dakota’s Clean Sustainable Energy Authority to fund innovative technologies in 2022. Bonnie is a single mother to two daughters, ages 11 and 8, and enjoys volunteering with Girl Scouts of Colorado.

    Manager of Real Estate, Western Region at The AES Corporation

    Anita Munkres has 30 years of land experience crossing the real estate title insurance, oil and gas, and renewable energy industries. As the manager and title examiner of the title research plant for various title insurance companies she built a strong base in land research and title curative preparing and underwriting title commitments and title policies across Colorado. As the Land Analyst Manager of the Exploration and Production department of Anadarko Petroleum she helped develop and manage a 300+ well a year drilling program in the Wattenberg basin of Northeastern Colorado. Her move into the renewable energy industry as a Real Estate Manager proved symbiotic and is now developing solar, wind, and battery storage projects across the western United States. She currently sits on the board of directors for No Silence, No Violence, a non-profit organization in San Diego, CA that helps survivors of domestic violence.

Amy attended Arizona State University before becoming a licensed property and casualty broker.
