Solar Energy International's (SEI) Women in Solar Power program is a highly innovative approach to training women for jobs in the solar industry, addressing both the industry's urgent need for workforce expansion and supporting career development for a diverse population of women. An unspoken deterrent to pursuing a career in the solar industry has been the predominance of men. Yet the solar industry offers a multitude of lucrative job prospects with a clear career path forward, and women across the world have invaluable expertise, skills and perspectives to contribute to the clean energy revolution. This program is unequivocally for them. There is no question that positive change will result from more women being an integral part of solar industry initiatives in the US and across the world. SEI is dedicated to help meet the ballooning workforce needs of the solar industry, and making sure women are not just included, but a driving force in the change to renewable energy.

My solar career began in Austin, TX in 2012 where I worked with the education company SolPowerPeople, first in an administrative roll, then as an instructor and curriculum developer, and eventually as Chief Operating Officer. While in Austin, I gained by NABCEP PVIP certification, volunteered on the board of Solar Austin helping to establish the Value of Solar Tariff, and had a brief but successful part time sales gig with Greenbelt Solar. In 2014 I began working part time with Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), and in 2016 I became the Project Manager for the IBTS solar quality management program. After 2 years in this role, I chose to resign and shifted to working as an independent contractor within the QM program in order to pursue other passions. I am a NABCEP certified PVIP, independent contractor, and professional visual artist. I appreciate that my solar career has allowed me to operate within an industry that I believe in while pursuing my other passion, and I enjoy the disruption that being a woman in this industry provides.
