Executive Director of GirlStart
Shane Woods, serving as Girlstart's Executive Director since 2022, leads a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls in STEM. Previously, Shane pursued a career in science education in Fort Worth's Independent School District for 17 years, excelling in various roles, including K-12 Science Director. Her three-year tenure with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas STEM Center of Excellence further solidified her commitment to fostering kids' skills in science, technology, engineering, and math, while instilling confidence, resilience, and leadership qualities in the girls and women she served. A nationally recognized figure in science education, equity in STEM, and leadership, Shane frequently appears on podcasts and engages in panel discussions as a champion for women, nonprofits and STEM education. Her community involvement extends to leadership roles in organizations like Dallas Afterschool, American Camp Association, and the Texas Girls Collaborative Project. Shane holds an MS in Education from Walden University and a BS in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana. Beyond her professional endeavors, Shane revels in completing 5-15Ks, camping with her dog, sharing anime and horror flicks with her daughter, and exploring international destinations with friends.
