The 2025 WEN North Texas Mentoring Program is designed to empower our members by fostering personal and professional growth, career advancement, and expanded industry connections. Through a series of three interactive workshops culminating in a final mentoring event, participants will gain valuable insights, build meaningful relationships, and engage in facilitated mentorship opportunities within the Dallas / Fort Worth community.

Each workshop includes a 2+ hour session facilitated by an executive coach, featuring interactive learning, small group breakouts, and opportunities for meaningful connections across all career levels—from entry-level professionals to executives.

Workshop #2: The Inner Web - Thoughts, Leadership & Growth

This workshop will equip participants with strategies to advance in their careers and identify opportunities for professional development. Senior female leaders in energy will share their personal trials and tribulations as they have succeeded through the changing energy landscape and provide us with actionable strategies to challenge negative self-talk, shift our mindset to grow and embrace new opportunities, and to build mental resilience.

Workshop #3: Leadership Skills for Women

Topic - Thinking on your Feet: Navigating Decisions in Energy Leadership
Speaker: Sydney Barcus, Performance Improvement Leader, Business Consultant & Advisor
This workshop will strengthen leadership capabilities, and decision-making skills in high impact roles within the energy sector. The session will feature a panel discussion with senior women leaders in energy, followed by an interactive Q&A.

Speed Mentoring & Networking Event

Location TBD
Objective:Foster meaningful peer-to-peer and peer-to-executive connections through an engaging speed mentoring format. This event will provide an open space for participants to share personal and professional development goals while receiving valuable insights from experienced mentors.
Format: Small group discussions, (4-6 people) each lead by a senior mentor. Sessions will last 15-20 minutes, allowing participants to rotate to new tables for diverse conversations. Topics will vary by table, offering a range of perspectives and experiences. The event will conclude with a happy hour, featuring drinks and light appetizers, providing additional time for informal networking.

Navigating gender biases and stereotypes
Coping with stress and burnout in high-pressure environments
Managing setbacks and building resilience
Industry specific discussions – Oil and Gas, Renewables, Power & Utilities, Other Energy Sectors

Lillian G. Flakes is a global operations leader, geophysicist, and public speaker who bridges science, strategy, and sustainability across the energy industry. With over 20 years of experience in geoscience, software development, and product strategy, she has led global teams in advancing subsurface technologies and supporting both traditional and transitional energy efforts.

Lillian began her career as a geophysicist with Texaco and ARCO International, contributing to seismic interpretation and subsurface modeling. She later held leadership roles at CGG and GeoSoftware, where she helped shape innovative solutions for reservoir characterization and played a pivotal role in the Open Subsurface Data Universe™ (OSDU) initiative, guiding policy and standards for geospatial data in cloud-native environments.

As the Founder and Consultant of Prospect Dimensions, she advises organizations on strategic integration of geoscience, data platforms, and energy transition initiatives. Her work spans both conventional oil and gas projects and emerging low-carbon solutions, providing technical and strategic insight across the evolving energy landscape.

An Adjunct Faculty Member at LeTourneau and Grand Canyon Universities, Lillian teaches physical and environmental sciences, sharing real-world insights with future scientists. She is known for her ability to translate complex scientific and energy topics for diverse audiences. Her presentations—from hands-on demonstrations of the Earth’s core for young students to strategic briefings for executive leaders—spark curiosity, foster clarity, and build confidence across all audiences.

Lillian currently serves as a Director at Large for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), where she leads initiatives in audit, sustainability, and inclusion. She is also an active member of the Women’s Energy Network, championing innovation, leadership, and collaboration across the energy sector.

Elizabeth Lions stands apart in the coaching realm.
